DIY Body Oil for Soft & Healthy Skin

Feb 9, 2022

As part of our new #LiveInLove sale event, we want to bring you one great way to look after your skin (and hair) at home! Have you ever considered creating your own hair and body oil with a scent that you love? This is a fun project that allows you to customize your oils your way.

Let's take a look at the types of oils you will need, and how to blend them.

Carrier Oils

Olive, castor, argan, coconut, grapeseed, and vitamin E oil are all examples of carrier oils. These oils are extracted from the seed of particular plants and can be used directly on your skin and hair. As the name suggests, these oils "carry" or help to dilute essential oils, which we are going to talk about next!

Essential Oils

Lavender, tea tree, sweet orange, eucalyptus, and peppermint are all examples of essential oils. Essential oils are concentrated extracts that have the scent of the plant they come from. They are more potent then carrier oils and so they cannot be applied directly to the skin or hair, but you can use them in your carrier oils to dilute them ready for use on your body.

How do I blend carrier and essential oils?

For 8oz of carrier oil, you can use 5 to 8 drops of essential oil. Here's a quick recipe to try out!

You will need:

1 Bottle of I Am Pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Eucalyptus or other preferred essential oil

Method:

Carefully add 5 to 8 drops of essential oil to your bottle of castor oil. Gently stir to blend the two oils together. It's as simple as that! Store your oil blend in a cool, dry place.
