For beauties with natural hair, the summer sun and changes in the weather can mean a new haircare routine is needed! This is because our hair can become more dry and brittle as a result of the heat, or frizzy due to the humidity. 1. Start with a trim

Start summertime with a good trim to remove split ends, strand knots and any damaged hair. You'll feel super refreshed and ready for the warm weather ahead!

2. Switch your shampoo and conditioner

During the hotter months, you're likely to be washing your hair more regularly, so make a switch to a gentle shampoo and conditioner that will care for curls, kinks and coils without stripping them of much needed moisture.
-

3. Take care of your scalp

We tend to sweat more in summer, which can lead to build up on our scalps. Keeping up a good cleansing routine and even using a rinse on a regular basis can keep the skin on your scalp in good condition and promote healthy hair growth while your strands can be left feeling light and fresh.

4. Saturate strands before hitting the pool

A useful tip for on summer vacation is to drench your hair with clean water or refresher spray before jumping in the pool or ocean to ensure that your strands don't absorb as much chlorine or saltwater as they would without. Always rinse your hair thoroughly post-swim to prevent drying.

5. Moisturize

Try the LOC (lotion → oil cream) method to layer your haircare products to retain as much moisture as possible after cleansing! It is also important that you are getting a healthy diet and adequate water intake. This will keep curly and afro hair looking healthy this season.

6. Add a hat or headscarf to a protective style

UV rays from the sun can cause brittleness and dryness, while humidity can cause frizz. Choose a protective style such as braids, twists, cornrows or faux locs to help to keep tresses healthy while protecting them from damage. You can add a stylish hat or headscarf for even more protection! To combat frizz due to humidity, sleeping on a silk pillowcase, or wrapping the hair in a silk scarf as much as possible will smooth your cuticle.
