Get-The-Look : Dutch Braids with Glitter Roots

Hey lovelies! So as many of you know, this year’s Caribbean Carnival Parade (a.k.a Caribana) is fast approaching, and we know more than anyone that looking the part is just as important as ‘playing’ the part! So in the spirit of celebrating Toronto’s biggest Caribbean event of the year, we're offering up some essential ‘Get Carnival Ready’ style and beauty tips to recreate some of our favourite glamourous looks worn by many of our stylish revellers! Today, we'll touch upon the ever-popular dutch-braid hairstyle, paired with glitter roots to spice things up. Below are a list of the few items you’ll need to create this look, which you can easily grab from one of our stores!
First off, you’ll need a spray bottle filled with water, a brush, and a smoothing hair product of your choice. Our pick is the Cantu Dry Deny Moisture Seal Gel Oil . With this multi-purpose product, you get the best of both worlds with solid hold for slicked-back looks to prep your braids without the dryness or flakiness, thanks to its oil component. Simply spray your hair with water until damp (this will create a more polished look at the end, with less frizz), and apply a generous amount of the gel-oil onto your hair. Then brush your hair back from along the edges to smooth the hair back and prep for styling.

All you’ll need to do is part your hair down the middle, grab a handful of the synthetic hair and add to your hair as you proceed to braid down towards the back of your head, continuing down until you achieve your desired length. Make sure you’re also brushing down the sides of your head every so often as you’re braiding to reduce frizz and get those edges laid for the finished look!
